FARMVILLE, Va. – North Carolina Central University stayed with its theme of scoring early and often as the Eagles picked up its first road win of the year with a 12-4 decision over Longwood at Bolding Stadium.

NCCU (6-3) struck for four runs in the first frame on four hits including a bases-clearing, three-RBI double from Dominic Cuevas (Gurnee, Ill.) and that set the tone for the rest of the contest.

Chris Kernen (Greensboro, N.C.) was strong in his first start of the year, as he scattered five hits and didn’t allow a run from Longwood (2-5) until the fifth frame of work.  He pitched five full innings with five strikeouts and three walks on the way to a winning decision.

The Eagles did the most damage in the top of the sixth inning as NCCU collected five runs on two hits and took advantage of a few miscues from the Lancers.  Jacob Raby (Granite Falls, N.C.) drove in a pair on a single to right field, and Timmy Fischvogt (Kernersville, N.C.) also pushed a run across on a sacrifice fly in the inning as the Eagles pulled ahead 12-1.

The Eagles used six different pitchers in the victory, and they combined to strike out 10 batters over the nine innings.  Cuevas finished with a game-high three RBI for the Eagles on two hits, and Zach Michalski (Belews Creek, N.C.) had a double of his own in a two-hit day along with two RBI.  Two other Eagles had a multi-hit day as Corey Joyce (Lexington, N.C.) was 2-for-4 with two walks, and Andrew Valichka (Pedricktown, N.J.) was 2-for-5.

Jawan McAllister (Philadelphia, Pa.) headlined the Lancers as he went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
