EAST GREENSBORO – Michael Johnson (5-11, 220, Jr., Lexington, N.C.)helped the North Carolina A&T baseball team end a four-game losing streak on Sunday and was rewarded for it on Monday.

Johnson was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) co-pitcher of the week after throwing a complete-game seven-hit shutout Sunday afternoon against the College of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

Johnson, who got off to a 3-0 start last season before finishing 7-2, is off to a 3-0 start this season. Last season, Johnson earned first-team All-MEAC honors in leading the Aggies to the MEAC Southern Division regular-season title and the MEAC tournament title.

Sunday marked the second shutout win of Johnson’s career with both shutout wins coming this season after Johnson gave up three hits over six shutout innings in a win over Niagara on Feb. 17. Nationally, Johnson ranks 129thin the nation in ERA at 1.23. He is third in the conference in the same category. His complete game makes him one of only 39 players in the country to have pitched a complete game.

It was his first career complete game. For his career, Johnson is 14-6 with a 4.40 ERA. He has 88 career strikeouts in 161 2/3 innings pitched.

The Aggies claimed a pitcher of the week honor from the MEAC for the second straight week after Tim Luth earned the award last week for his one-hit shutout of Northern Kentucky. Luth did not lose his no-hit bid until the eighth inning against the Norse.

N.C. A&T is back action 4 p.m, Tuesday, March 5 when they face Valparaiso at War Memorial Stadium.
