NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State baseball team has received a first-round bye in this week’s MEAC Baseball Championship in Salisbury, Md., and will play its first game at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Spartans (24-20, 16-7 MEAC North) face the winner of Wednesday’s first-round game between South No. 2 North Carolina A&T and North No. 3 Maryland Eastern Shore at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, the home of the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds. The Spartans won the conference’s Northern Division regular-season title for the third consecutive year.

Only six of the conference’s nine baseball programs advance to the conference tournament. NSU, Delaware State and host MDES claimed the three slots from the MEAC North, while Bethune-Cookman, North Carolina A&T and Florida A&M earned the three qualifying spots from the MEAC South. As the Southern Division’s top seed, defending champion Bethune-Cookman also earns a first-day bye, along with NSU.

Tickets are $8 per day or $25 for all four days. Parking is free. Tickets can be purchased in advance by logging onto or calling (410) 621-3311. Tickets can also be purchased at the stadium each day. Children 12 and under will be admitted for free with a paying adult. Fans 55 and older, active and retired military, as well as first responders in uniform, will receive half off admission.
