NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State baseball team has swept its last two MEAC Northern Division weekend series. On Monday, the Spartans notched another sweep, as NSU players took home all three weekly conference awards.

Junior infielder Roger Hall, freshman utility man Chase Anderson and junior left hander Devin Hemmerich were selected as the MEAC’s Player, Rookie and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, by the league office after leading NSU to a perfect 4-0 week against William & Mary and Coppin State.

14_Roger_Hall_2016_HSHall batted .467, hitting safely in all four contests last week with an on-base percentage of .500 and a slugging percentage of .667. Hall scored three runs, drove in three, and had a double and a triple among his seven hits. He had three straight two-hit games to start the week. He saw time at first base, second base and shortstop in the four contests.

Anderson went 2-for-4 with a two-run single and also pitched a scoreless inning in relief in Saturday’s 10-0 win over Coppin State, striking out two batters. Anderson then had an RBI double in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over CSU. Anderson played second and third base during the week and handled all 25 of his defensive chances without an error.

45 Matt Outman 2016 HSHemmerich earned his first MEAC Pitcher of the Week nod this season by pitching seven scoreless innings and matching his season high with eight strikeouts in the 2-0 triumph over CSU in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader. Hemmerich allowed just three hits and walked three in improving to 3-4 on the year. Hemmerich’s honor is also the third in a row for the NSU pitching staff, following fellow weekend starters Matt Outman (April 11) and Jonathan Mauricio (April 18). The trio has led a staff that has allowed just two earned runs while posting four shutouts in its last six MEAC games.
