NORFOLK, Va. – As part of the ongoing celebration of 51 years of Norfolk State University baseball, the Spartans will host a post-game fireworks show as part of their annual NSU Baseball vs. Hunger game and fundraiser on Thursday, May 7 at Marty L. Miller Field.

The Spartans host Jackson State in a doubleheader on May 7 starting at 3 p.m. A six-minute fireworks show will follow the second game of the doubleheader.

NSU’s nine seniors – Troy Applin, Mikey Bruno, Stephen Butt, Jeff Di Fulgo, Corey Haynes, Ian Horne, Omar Hotusing, Ryan Kilmon and Josh Vales – will be recognized prior to the second game of the doubleheader. Local business leader Gary McCollum will throw out the ceremonial first pitch for that contest.

NSU is asking fans to make a $5 donation and bring five non-perishable food items to the game to support the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore. Admission is otherwise free. Fans can also donate online to the event at this link.

At last year’s Baseball vs. Hunger game, NSU collected 1,457 pounds of food and $1,933.59 in donations, equivalent to 7,257 meals.
