NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University freshman Chase Anderson was selected as the MEAC Baseball Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Anderson earned his first collegiate pitching victory in last Monday’s 6-1 win over NJIT at Marty L. Miller Field, helping the Spartans sweep a doubleheader from the Highlanders. Anderson pitched four innings, struck out a season-high seven batters, and surrendered just one run on three hits.

Anderson, who also plays infield for the Spartans, added two hits in five at-bats last week for NSU (3-8).

This week’s award gives NSU the last two MEAC Rookie of the Week honors. Freshman utility player Kevin Granger won the award last week.
