DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University baseball junior Conrad Kovalcik has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for February 2016 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Kovalcik hit for a .360 batting average and a .960 slugging percentage during the month of February. He went 9-for-25 at the plate with three doubles, four home runs, six runs scored and 10 runs batted in. The catcher also threw out four runners attempting to steal.

In his best outing on Feb. 26, Kovalcik belted a pair of home runs for four RBI to lead the Eagles to a 7-4 win over Niagara University.

Kovalcik boasts a 3.80 overall grade point average as a chemistry/pre-med major at NCCU. He is a Soaring Eagle Chancellor’s Scholar and was presented with a Governor’s Student Excellence Award for outstanding academic achievement from Governor Pat McCrory on Feb. 2.

Once the junior graduates from NCCU, his plans include pursuing a professional baseball career and attending medical school to become an orthopaedic surgeon so he can work with athletes.
