GREENSBORO, NC North Carolina A&T’s baseball team was one of 32 Division I baseball programs to receive the 2015-2016 Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). This honor is awarded to programs with a team grade-point average above a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The ABCA distinction recognizes N.C. A&T student-athletes’ efforts in the classroom, accumulating a GPA that places them in the top 10 percent in the nation academically. The Aggies had a team cumulative GPA of 3.13. Twenty-one Aggies earned scholar athlete honors from N.C. A&T in 2015-16.

N.C. A&T was joined by Maryland Eastern Shore as the only teams in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference to receive this award.  The ABCA works to acknowledge the achievements of athletes and coaches from the high school level through NCAA Division I programs. The inaugural ABCA award decorated 150 teams at each level of the sport.

“North Carolina A&T is a top choice for any student-athlete who is looking for the opportunity to accomplish high achievement in the classroom and on the field,” said N.C. A&T head coach Ben Hall. Hall also thanked Katrina Allen-Norris, the team’s academic coach, for helping the team achieve the milestone.

“This is a neat honor for our baseball program,” said Hall. “To be recognized by our national coaching association for academic achievement is a great example of our players’ hard work as students first, and the time invested in them from our Academic Center for Excellence.”
