EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T graduate and baseball alum Adan Ordonez has signed a contract to play with the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers of the United Shores Professional Baseball League.

Ordonez is one of the most accomplished players in N.C. A&T baseball history. Ordonez won Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rookie of the year in 2015. He was also named N.C. A&T’s Male Rookie Athlete of the Year award along with earning Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American honors.

As a sophomore and junior, Ordonez was named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List for best Division I catcher in the nation by The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission. He earned all-conference honors three times including being named the MEAC’s first-team catcher twice.

A four-year starter at catcher for N.C. A&T, Ordonez batted .304 with 44 doubles, 11 home runs, 137 RBI and posted a slugging percentage of .415 during his career. He was 14thin the nation in toughest to strike out as a junior and fourth in the country as a senior.

Ordonez helped the Aggies win the 2018 MEAC Championship and advance to the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional hosted by the University of North Carolina during his senior season.

The USPBL is a four-team independent league with its home office in Utica, Mich. The league has expanded from three teams to four since it launched in May of 2016. All four teams play in Michigan.

The USPBL was designed as an innovative developmental finishing school for players seeking to make it to the Majors. In three seasons, 25 USPBL players have been signed up by Major League organizations. Several of those players have reached high levels of affiliated ball, including Kevin Matthews making it to AAA in the Atlanta Braves organization in 2017.
