Miles used a big third inning and another outstanding pitching performance to beat Lane 14-3 Sunday afternoon at historic Rickwood Field. The win helped the Golden Bears (12-12, 4-2 SIAC West) sweep the weekend series and get back to .500 after a three-game losing skid.

Jacob Schuster (1-2) fell behind early but allowed just six hits and struck out six in the complete-game win. Ryan Bargery had three hits and three runs batted in while Kolby Brannon and Justin Bisharat each had two hits and three runs scored to pace the offense for the Golden Bears.

Lane (1-18, 0-6) scored first for the third straight game. Treviz Brown tripled and Keishaun Clark followed with a single to put the Dragons on the board in the top of the first. But after a couple of meek innings, the Golden Bears exploded in the third. The first five hitters reached based, with a RBI single from Bargery tying the game and a 2-run single from Xavius Burden giving the Miles the lead for good. A Darione Adkison sacrifice fly, a 2-run single from Bentley, and another run-scoring single from Bargery capped the 8-run frame that saw Miles send 13 hitters to the plate against Lane starter Terrell Walker.

Miles would add two runs in the fifth and then scored four more times in the sixth as head coach Ty Roberts emptied the bench, Brannon had a RBI double, Brandon Conner added a RBI single and Alex Foster closed the scoring with a 2-run single for a 14-1 lead. Lane would score twice in the seventh but the nine-inning contest was called because of the 10-run mercy rule.

The Golden Bears will travel to Florence to take on North Alabama in a doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
