Miles Baseball Places Three On Preseason All-SIAC Team

Three members of the Miles baseball team were named to the preseason All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball team, which was announced by the league office today. Jacob Bisharat and Peyton Logan were First Team selections and Alex Bentley was placed on the Second Team by vote of the league’s coaches and media relations professionals.

Bisharat, a sophomore from Pleasant Grove, Ala., was selected as a first baseman. Last season, he was named SIAC Freshman of the Year and chosen for the All-Conference Second Team after finishing eighth in the league in batting average and slashing .361/.445/.483 with 11 doubles, a triple, 3 home runs and 40 RBI. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Bisharat also finished second on the team with 16 stolen bases, which was ninth in the SIAC. He was already named to the National College Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-South Region Second Team.

Logan, a senior from Childersburg, Ala., was selected as a Utility Player. Last season, he played was injured in the first game of the season, which actually paved the way for Bisharat to get into the lineup. He did get a hit in both at-bats and drove in a run. But Logan was an intricate part of the Golden Bears’ 2017 SIAC Championship team, slashing .359/.424/.455. He scored 39 runs with 11 doubles, a home run and 35 runs batted in as a first baseman and designated hitter.

Bentley, a senior from Sylacauga, Ala., was selected as an outfielder. Last season, he finished sixth in the SIAC in walks and ninth in on-base percentage and was second batting average for the Golden Bears, slashing  .343/.468/.443. He scored 44 runs with 11 doubles, a home run and 23 RBI while going 9-for-10 in stolen base attempts.

The Golden Bears, who have won the SIAC Western Division the last two season, begin their trek for another league crown on Friday, when they host Morehouse in a doubleheader at historic Rickwood Field. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
