Mid-Week Contest Against East Texas Baptist Goes In Favor of Jarvis Christian Bulldog, 5-3

Hawkins, Texas—-Bulldogs baseball played host to NCAA Division III East Texas Baptist University on the campus of Jarvis Christian College in a mid-week single 9 inning game. ETBU would come into the match-up with an overall record of 15-9, ASC 9-3. The Bulldogs entered the day with a record of 18-18, RRAC 7-5.

ETBU would score first on a ground ball fielders choice to take a 1-0 lead in the 2nd. After a scoreless 3rd, the Tigers would see a pitching change in the bottom half, with Garrett Penny taking the mound, as the Bulldogs would go three up, three down. Alejandro Guerrero (JR/San Leandro, CA) would force a 1-2-3 inning in the 4th with the score remaining, ETBU 1, JCC 0. The Tigers would send Chad Boudreaux to the mound in the bottom half in a staff day for ETBU, as JCC would fail to send a runner to base.

As the fourth pitcher for ETBU would take the mound in the bottom half of the 5th, Angel Guillen (JR/Santa Maria, CA) would reach first after being hit by a pitch with one out. Stephon Miller (SO/Opelousas, LA) would record the first hit for the Bulldogs to right center sending Guillen to third. Anthony Ortiz (SO/Bronx, NY) would lay down a squeeze, reaching first safely, scoring Guillen, as the ball would sneak past both fielders, tying the game at 1-1.

The Tigers would take the lead in the 6th scoring one, stranding the bases loaded, with Guerrero working out of the jam. Kevin Ciprian (SO/Providence, RI) for JCC would reach first to lead off the bottom half after an ETBU error, stealing second on the next pitch. Carlos Andrade (SR/Pasadena, TX) would double down the right field line to score Ciprian, tying the game up 2-2 with no outs, followed by a CJ Tyler (FR/Van Alstyne, TX) single. Koby Greene (SR/Bullard, TX) would score Andrade as JCC would go ahead, 3-2.

With the lead, Jordan Garcia (FR/Orange Grove, TX) would come into pitch, replacing Guerrero in the 7th, keeping ETBU off the scoreboard. In the bottom half, ETBU would send Alek Arellano to the mound. The Bulldogs would take a 5-2 lead on a 2 out throwing error by the ETBU second basemen.

In the 8th, Matt Burrows (JR/Manteca, CA) would take the mound for the Bulldogs, stranding two ETBU runners. The Tigers would add one more in the 9th on solo home run by Zach Compton, but no more, as Burrows (2-2-1) would pick up the save in the 5-3 victory. Alejandro Guerrero (4-2-1) would get the win.

JCC (19-18, RRAC 7-5) will play host to Red River Athletic Conference Opponent Our Lady of the Lake University (11-18, RRAC 5-5) in Hawkins, Texas, in a three game series on March 31-April 1, 2017. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 12pm.
