The Miami Marlins honored Florida Memorial’s Head Baseball Coach Tino Burgos at the start of their home game against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night. The recognition was honoring Coach Burgos as the HBCU Coach of the Year.
FMU alum Javi Perez threw the first pitch as he continues to recover from the accident in which he lost both of his legs. Several FMU alumni were on hand to support Javi and Coach Burgos.
“Coach Burgos is an outstanding coach and a great developer of young men. I am pleased and proud that the Marlins organization is providing an opportunity to present Coach Burgos to the community and celebrating the program’s accomplishments”, said Dr. P.L. Caldwell, FMU Director of Athletics.
“I would like to thank Florida Memorial University for the opportunity to lead the baseball program. I would also like to thank Dr. Caldwell, Ms. Chippey, and everyone in the athletic program for their help and support in our success. Lastly, I would like to thank the Marlins organization for this special presentation”, said Coach Burgos.
