Hayes (5-8, 150, r-Sr., Chesapeake, Va.) batted .667 (8-for-12) as the Spartans took a weekend series against Coppin State to force a tie atop the Northern Division standings, driving in four, scoring three times and swiping three bags. He hit a three-run home run in the series opener, and he added an RBI single in the second game of the doubleheader. Hayes, the MEAC’s top base stealer, had multiple hits in all three games, slugging .917 and boasting a .692 on-base percentage.
Carrow (6-0, 175, Fr., Smyrna, Del.) shined in relief in the Hornets’ 11-5 win over Maryland Eastern Shore over the weekend, tossing seven scoreless innings. He struck out a career-high nine batters with issuing a walk, scattering six hits in keeping the Hawks off the scoreboard.
Rivera Ozuna (6-4, 200, Sr., Washington, D.C.) fanned a career-high 11 batters in 6.1 shutout innings on Sunday against Norfolk State – a game the Eagles won 5-0 to tie the Spartans atop the Northern Division standings and tie the Coppin State single-season record for wins (21). He scattered just four hits in the effort.
