NORFOLK, Va., – Norfolk State redshirt senior Justin Hayes was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Delaware State’s Jeremy Carrowearned Rookie of the Week honors, while Coppin State senior Devin Rivera Ozuna was named Pitcher of the Week.

Hayes (5-8, 150, r-Sr., Chesapeake, Va.) batted .667 (8-for-12) as the Spartans took a weekend series against Coppin State to force a tie atop the Northern Division standings, driving in four, scoring three times and swiping three bags. He hit a three-run home run in the series opener, and he added an RBI single in the second game of the doubleheader. Hayes, the MEAC’s top base stealer, had multiple hits in all three games, slugging .917 and boasting a .692 on-base percentage.

Carrow (6-0, 175, Fr., Smyrna, Del.) shined in relief in the Hornets’ 11-5 win over Maryland Eastern Shore over the weekend, tossing seven scoreless innings. He struck out a career-high nine batters with issuing a walk, scattering six hits in keeping the Hawks off the scoreboard.

Rivera Ozuna (6-4, 200, Sr., Washington, D.C.) fanned a career-high 11 batters in 6.1 shutout innings on Sunday against Norfolk State – a game the Eagles won 5-0 to tie the Spartans atop the Northern Division standings and tie the Coppin State single-season record for wins (21). He scattered just four hits in the effort.

Carter Harbut (CSU) struck out a career-high eight in seven innings of work against Towson.

Nazier McIlwain (CSU) had a three-run home run against Towson and hit 11-for-21 in five games for the week.

Tommy Jordan (DSU) drove in three and scored five times as the Hornets won their series over Maryland Eastern Shore over the weekend.

Kyle Coleman (FAMU) struck out seven in 5.2 innings against Savannah State.

Seyjuan Lawrence (FAMU) went 8-for-15 with four runs scored and two RBIs in a three-game sweep of Savannah State.

Robert Robinson (FAMU) was 3-for-4 with an RBI on Thursday against Savannah State, before driving in a pair in Saturday’s doubleheader.

Marcus Brown (MDES) went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in the first game of a doubleheader against Delaware State.

D.J. Doherty (MDES) had six RBIs in a three-game series against Delaware State.

Marty Tolson (MDES) struck out four in five innings, giving up just one run against Delaware State.

Donte Wade (NCAT) was a combined 4-for-7 with an RBI in a doubleheader split against Liberty.

Josh Brammell (NCCU) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs against Longwood before recording a pair of two-hit games against Bethune-Cookman.

Chris Krennrich (NCCU) retired 13 straight Bethune-Cookman batters, striking out seven in 6.1 innings and giving up just two runs.

Chase Anderson (NSU) struck out eight in seven shutout innings against Coppin State, allowing five hits.
