MEAC Announces Weekly Baseball Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State’s Denathan Dukes was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, the conference announced today.Bethune-Cookman’s Danny Rodriguez earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Jonathan Mauricio of Norfolk State was named Pitcher of the Week.

Dukes (OF, 6-2, Jr., Woodbridge, Va.)went 7-for-13 (.538) with two doubles, one run batted in, one walk and five stolen bases, in four games against Maryland Eastern Shore and VCU. He tied a career-high four hits, in four at bats, in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Rodriguez (1B, 6-3, 240, Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) recorded a .412 batting average (7-for-17), including one double, two runs scored and four RBIs, in four games against FIU and Florida A&M. He registered 28 putouts, with two assists and no errors, in three games against Florida A&M.

Mauricio (RHP, 6-2, Jr., Midlothian, Va.) notched his first collegiate win in a complete-game shutout victory over Maryland Eastern Shore. He scattered four hits, with a career-high nine strikeouts, and did not walk a batter.


Other Top Performers

Nathan Bond (B-CU) finished with six hits, two runs and four walks, in four games against FIU and Florida A&M.

Isaiah Chambers (UMES) went 3-for-6 at the plate, in two games, against Norfolk State.

Jamar Criss (CSU) finished with 14 hits, including two home runs and two doubles, with 10 runs scored and 12 RBIs, in seven games.

Alex Dandridge (NCCU) recorded a shutout victory, over North Carolina A&T State, in six innings.

James Dey (NCCU) went 3-for-4, with one home run and two RBIs, in a win over North Carolina A&T State.

John Kraft (CSU) belted three home runs in three games against Maryland Eastern Shore and Fairleigh Dickinson.

Donte Lindsay (B-CU) did not allow any earned runs in two games against Florida A&M and FIU.

Chris Melrath (UMES) scattered four hits, with three strikeouts, in seven innings pitched against Norfolk State.

Krystian Negron (CSU) posted six strikeouts and allowed just two hits against Delaware State.

Ricky Page (FAMU) registered a career-high seven strikeouts in a win against Bethune-Cookman.

Kwestin Smith (DSU) batted .500, with one double, two RBIs and two runs scored, in a win over Coppin State.
