NORFOLK, Va. – Myles Sowell of North Carolina A&T State was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, the conference announced today.Norfolk State’s Chase Anderson earned Rookie of the week, whileBethune-Cookman’s Tyler Norris was named Pitcher of the Week

Sowell (CF, 6-2, 175, So., Greensboro, N.C.) registered a .471 batting average (8-of-17), including eight hits and four runs, with two home runs, one double and three RBIs, in four games against Gardner-Webb and Iona. Defensively, he recorded 10 putouts.

Anderson (P/IF, 5-9, Fr., Norfolk, Va.) earned his first collegiate pitching win in a 6-1 victory over the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He struck out seven batters and allowed one run, in four innings pitched.

Norris (P, 6-1, 160, So., Coral Springs, Fla.) pitched six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out seven, in a 1-0 win over Florida Gulf Coast.

Other Top Performers

Michael Cruz (B-CU) tallied 42 putouts and two assists, with no errors, in five games.

Tom Prospero (NCCU) notched seven hits and five runs, including one home run, in five games.

Ben Ellzey (FAMU) posted a .409 batting average (9-for-22), including nine hits and five runs, in five games.

Todd Henry (DSU) went 5-for-10, with one double and one RBI, in three games.

Josten Heron (B-CU) averaged .273 at the plate, with three hits and two runs, including two RBIs, against USF, Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast.

Syeed Mahdi (NSU) went 5-for-5, including four runs scored, four RBIs and two doubles, in a doubleheader sweep over the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Ricky Page (FAMU) registered a 1.29 ERA while striking out four over seven innings, in a win over Western Michigan.

Justice Sampson (NCCU) recorded two saves and allowed no runs in four games.

Kaeson Wilson (NCAT) pitched four innings of scoreless relief, allowing only one hit, in a 14-13 win over Iona.
