PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland – Senior infielder Jordan Martin (Atlanta, Georgia) and junior pitcher Toby Hoskins (North East, Maryland) were selected as the captains for the Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team during the 2017 season. Together the duo will lead the Hawks throughout the season, both in competition and elsewhere.

“There are a lot of young men that could be captains. Jordan and Toby are two gentlemen that exemplify what Maryland Eastern Shore baseball is all about, on the field and off the field.” Hawks coach Charlie Goens said. “They have earned their teammates’ respect and have a great work ethic.”

Martin is being named a captain for the second time. The Georgian senior is the centerpiece of the Hawks’ infield as the team’s starting shortstop and will be his third campaign on The Shore. He was impressive in his junior year as evidenced by a .273 batting average and team highs in runs scored (33) and walks (21).

Hoskins has been a reliable arm for the Hawks the past two seasons, and is expected to compete for a spot in the weekend rotation this season. In his sophomore year, Hoskins bounced between starter and reliever and picked up three victories while leading the team in strikeouts with 40 over 59 2/3 innings.

In addition to their on-field talents, both young men have earned their stripes academically and in the community. Martin is pursuing his degree in exercise science and hopes to work in the healthcare profession after graduation, and Hoskins is a biology major concentrating in pre-med, with aspirations to go on to graduate school with hopes of working as a physician assistant.

Both men can also be seen whenever the Hawks baseball team embarks on community service projects, of which there are several throughout the season.

Maryland Eastern Shore begins its 2017 season against Mercer on February 17th. The Hawks will open at home March 11th.
