Luis DeLeon Earns MEAC Player Of The Week Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University junior Luis DeLeon (Providence, R.I.) generated substantial power and hit safely in all five games last week for the Eagles, and he has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his efforts, the conference office announced on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

DeLeon carried a .471 (8-for-17) batting average and hit five extra-base hits, including four doubles and one home run to drive in eight RBI with an impressive .882 slugging percentage.  He also walked four times, and picked up a .591 on-base percentage.  His best game of the week came against High Point when he went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and drove in two RBI.

Through the first eight games of the season, DeLeon is leading the club with a .423 batting average, and a .692 slugging percentage.  This is his first career weekly award, and the first of the season for NCCU.
