Lincoln University sophomore first baseman Joshua Roberson (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley HS) was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Baseball Defensive Player of the Week for his performance during the week ending March 12, 2017

Roberson started all six games at first base for the Lions last week and was flawless in the field, handling a total of 25 chances without committing a single error.  He recorded 24 putouts and one assist.

Opening the week at Benedict College, Roberson recorded seven putouts in the two games and was part of Lincoln’s only double play turned during the week.    He recorded eight putouts and one assists in the Lions doubleheader split at Paine College on Friday and added nine more putouts  in Claflin’s doubleheader sweep of the Lions on Saturday.

The sophomore infielder also performed well with the bat, recording hits in five of Lincoln’s six games and notching two hits in four of those.  Roberson batted .429 with a double, home run and 3 RBI.  His home run was his third of the season tops on the team.

Through 13 games this season, Roberson is batting .381 (16-42) to rank fifth in the CIAA.  His three home runs also rank fifth amongst all CIAA players.  He has a slugging percentage of .643 (fourth best in CIAA) and an on-base percentage of .438 (sixth best in CIAA).

The former Seneca Valley High School athlete is in his second season as a member of the Lincoln University baseball team.
