DENMARK, S.C. – The Kentucky State University baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Voorhees College Saturday.

Kentucky State (4-2) will look to secure the three-game series sweep 11 a.m. Sunday. The Thorobreds are now 4-0-1 against Voorhees in the last five games.

The first six batters reached as Kentucky State seized control with a seven-run second inning en route to the 10-4 victory in the opener. Junior Jared Pierce (Lexington, Ky.) tallied his second career triple and drove home his first two career RBI with a two-run triple to kick off the scoring.

Sophomore Jace Wilson (Shepherdsville, Ky.) singled home Pierce and came around to score on junior Adren Thompson’s (Lexington, Ky.) bases-loaded walk. Sophomore Josh Graves (Springfield, Ky.) had a two-run single in the inning and freshman Collier Higgs (Owensboro, Ky.) capped the second-inning scoring with a RBI groundout.

Back-to-back two-out walks in the fourth inning set up Wilson’s two-run double that capped the Kentucky State scoring.

Senior Kevin Givhan (Chicago, Ill.) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk. He now has 10 multi-hit games in his career and has recorded three hits three times in his career. Wilson was 2-for-4 with a double and he tied a career-high with three RBI.

Sophomore Dashawn Hureskin (Benton Harbor, Mich.) improved to 2-0 on the season, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts.

Senior Brady Bibbs (Hornersville, Mo.) allowed just one hit in seven innings as the Thorobreds completed the sweep with a shutout in the nightcap. Bibbs struck out three with four walks. He allowed just two runners to reach scoring position.

Kentucky State gave Bibbs a nice cushion before he toed the rubber as the Thorobreds dropped a six-spot in the first inning. Back-to-back RBI singles from Pierce and senior Chance Egnor (Shepherdsville, Ky.) got the ‘Breds on the board. A sacrifice fly by freshman Marcus Chapman (Chicago, Ill.) gave Kentucky State the 3-0 lead.

The last three runs of the inning scored as junior Byron Famble (Cincinnati, Ohio), Givhan and Wilson all drew two-out, bases loaded walks. Givhan and Famble combined for a run in the seventh inning as Famble drew a two-out walk and Givhan doubled him home. Famble walked three times in four plate appearances.

Egnor was the only KSU player with multiple hits, but Wilson (three), Thompson (two), Graves (three) and Famble (three) all drew multiple walks.
