SALEM, WV – The Kentucky State University baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader Saturday with Salem University, and will go for the series victory with a nine-inning game noon Sunday.

GAME ONE: SALEM 5, KENTUCKY STATE 2
Senior Jay Poullard (Louisville, KY) and junior Kevin Givhan II (Chicago, IL) each had a pair of hits for the Thorobreds in the opening game loss.
Givhan II tied the game with a squeeze bunt in the second inning, but Salem reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the second. The Wildcats added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth inning to secure the victory.

Senior Artie Santomo (Florence, KY) registered the other RBI for the Thorobreds.

Senior Joe Crisp, 2-2, (Shelbyville, KY) allowed five runs on six hits in his fourth complete game of the season. He added six strikeouts with no walks.

GAME TWO: KENTUCKY STATE 7, SALEM 4
The Thorobreds scored four unearned runs in the fifth inning to transform a one-run deficit into a three-run lead, and Kentucky State held on for the victory.

Senior Russell Sims (Harrodsburg, KY) knotted the game at four with a two-out RBI single, and then a pair of runs came home as Dom Lawson (Bloomfield, KY) reached on an error. Senior Cam Starks (Alpharetta, GA) capped the scoring with a RBI single.

Junior Brandon Mason, 1-0, (Chattanooga, TN) earned the victory in relief, allowing just one hit in 2 1/3 innings. He finished with five strikeouts and four walks. The last two punch outs being the biggest as Salem threatened in the sixth inning.

The first two batters reached, and then a one-out walk loaded the bases. But, Mason got two swinging strikeouts to end the threat.

Senior Jordan Ransom (Ringgold, GA) earned his first save of the season, striking out the side in the seventh.

Lawson, Ransom and freshman Dakota Dull (Owensboro, KY) tallied doubles, while Starks was the lone player with multiple hits.
