Jarvis Christian Bulldogs Split Season-Opener With 13 Ranked York College

Hawkins, Texas – The Jarvis Christian College baseball team opened season play with a split over 13 ranked York College of Nebraska on Friday, January 27, 2017, in Hawkins. The Bulldogs were defeated in game one of the double-header by a score of 14-3, and bounced back with a 12-7 victory in game two.

GAME ONE

Trailing 4-1 headed into the 5th inning, York pulled away by scoring runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings. CJ Tyler (FR/Van Alstyne, TX), Stephon Miller (SO/Opelousas, LA) and Christopher White (FR/Sacramento, CA), led the Bulldogs offensively with two hits each. Tyler recorded an RBI and run scored while going 2-3 at the plate. DeAndre Mcguire and Spencer Thomas (JR/Oakdale, CA) each added an RBI in the contest.

Emilio Griego (JR/Yuma, AZ) (0-1) got the start for JCC going 4.2 innings, allowing 6 hits, 7 earned runs, while striking out 4 and walking none.

GAME TWO

In game two, the Bulldogs trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom half of the 3rd inning before an offensive attack that produced 5 runs. Christopher White led the inning off with a walk and two consecutive stolen bases, before a Koby Greene (SR/Bullard, TX) RBI triple to start off the inning. Carlos Andrade (SR/Pasadena, TX) then hit a 3 run home run to score DeAndre McGuire (SR/Houston, TX) and Ryan Emerald (SR/Jamestown, CA) who both reached on a pair of singles that drove in Greene. JCC followed up the 3rd inning with runs in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th innings to pull away.

Joseph Lyall (JR/Richmond, TX) (1-0) got the start and the victory for the Bulldogs tossing 5.0 innings, allowing just 2 hits and 1 earned run, while striking out 7. James Perez (JR/Fort Worth, TX), Jordan Garcia (FR/Orange Grove, TX) and Frank Montano (FR/Edinburg, TX) each recorded innings to secure the win.

The Bulldogs (1-1) will close out their four game series with York College (1-1) today, Saturday, January 28, 2017, in Hawkins. First pitch of the double-header is set for 12:00 pm.
