Jarvis Christian Bulldogs Hold Off Texas College For 4-2 Win

Behind the 12 strikeout performance by Joseph Lyall(SR/Richmond, TX), the Bulldogs took the opening game of the final home RRAC series of 2018, 4-2.

While the Bulldogs could manage only 5 hits off Texas College pitching, they made the most of their opportunities, making 4 runs stand up in the end.

Texas College got on the board first in the top of the 4th but the Bulldogs quickly responded. Austen Pulcher (SO/Baytown, TX) reached on a Texas College error, went to second on a steal and then was doubled in by Spencer Thomas (SR/Oakdale, CA) to went deep to right center for the rbi. Anthony Ortiz (JR/Bronx, NY) drove in Thomas with a sac fly to right.

The Bulldogs added a run in the bottom of the 5th when Armond Barrios (SO/Detroit, MI) led off getting plunked and then scored when Thomas hit into a fielders choice.

Anthony Ortiz hit a solo shot to left in the bottom of the 7th.

Lyall kept the Texas College hitters in check through 8 innings allowing just a single additional run in the top of the 8th. Tyler Holt(JR/Middletown, CA) came on to work the 9th and worked around a single to end the contest with a strikeout.

At the plate for the Bulldogs, Ortiz was 1-for-2 with two rbi  and Thomas was 1-for-4 but came up with the additonal two rbi on the afternoon.

The Bulldogs will face off with Texas College again on Saturday with first pitch of game one of the doubleheader at noon.  Seniors will be honored between contests.

The Bulldogs are now 25-28 on the season and 12-13 in RRAC competition and were in fifth place in the conference standings with the top six teams advancing to the RRAC Tournament in Shreveport at the end of next week.
