Jarvis Christian Baseball Walks Away With Split At Wayland, Wiley At Home Next

Hawkins, Texas – The Jarvis Christian Bulldogs baseball team traveled to Plainview, Texas, to take on Wayland Baptist (13-13), on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, in a non-conference doubleheader. The Bulldogs (12-16) dropped game one by a score of 10-7, and walked away with a victory in game two by a score of, 9-4.

DeAndre McGuire (SR/Houston, TX) led off game one with a double to right center and advanced to third on a Ryan Emerald (SR/Jamestown, CA) Sacrifice bunt, but was left stranded as JCC could not send McGuire across the plate. The Bulldogs surrendered a two run homerun in the bottom half to trail 2-0. The Bulldogs cross a run in the second to trim the lead but Wayland would respond back with three more of their own to take a 5-1 lead. With Jonathan Lewis (FR/Longview, TX) on second base in the third, Carlos Andrade (SR/Pasadena, TX) stepped up to the plate with an RBI double to trim the lead, 5-2.

After a scoreless third for Wayland, the Pioneers pieced together three hits to cross four runs to go ahead, 9-2. JCC would fight back with five runs of their own in the top half of the fifth inning to trim the lead, but were not able to score again as Wayland would add one for insurance in the sixth.

In game two, backed behind a strong start from Jordan Garcia (FR/Orange Grove, TX) (1-0), the Bulldogs would go ahead 2-0 before pulling away in the fourth. The fourth inning was led off with a Chase Martinez (JR/Tracy, CA) pinch hit double, followed by a Chandler Matthews (FR/Highland Village, TX) RBI single to score Martinez. With 2 outs, Christopher White (FR/Sacramento, CA) would triple to right field, scoring Matthews, to go ahead 4-0. White would score after a Stephon Miller (SO/Opelousas, LA) RBI single and would advance after a Koby Greene (SR/Bullard, TX) bunt single. DeAndre McGuire would step to the plate to continue the big inning for JCC, driving a single up the middle to score Miller, and take a 6-0 lead.

Wayland crossed their first two runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, trailing 6-2. Wayland would score again in the fifth, after two scoreless innings for JCC, to trim the lead 6-3. In the seventh and final inning, the Bulldogs would cross three more, capped off by an Anthony Ortiz (SO/Bronx, NY) 2 RBI homerun over the left field wall. With the lead 9-3 in the last chance for Wayland, Matt Burrows (JR/Manteca, CA) would come into pitch, allowing one run to score, but no more, securing the lead for the JCC victory.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs (12-16, RRAC 2-4) will host Red River Athletic Conference opponent, Wiley College (5-18, RRAC 0-5) on Friday, March 17, 2017, to kick off their three game series with the Wildcats. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm.

JCC has won the previous five matchups against Wiley with an overall record of 13-11 in their series matchups since 2009.
