WACO, Texas – Jordan Trahan of LSU Shreveport (La.) powered his way to the RRAC Baseball Player of the Week award for March 4-10, while Antony Orta of Jarvis Christian College (Texas) mowed down hitters to earn the RRAC Pitcher of the Week honor for the same dates. This is the seventh set of weekly awards for the 2019 baseball season.

Trahan belted five homers and drove in 15 runs in a 5-0 week for the Pilots. The senior first baseman homered in four out of five games including a two-run blast against Central Baptist College (Ark.). Trahan opened a four-game series with Texas College with a round-tripper and five RBIs en route to a 12-5 victory, and he closed the series with two dingers and six RBIs in a 15-1 rout. The native of Dayton, Texas, was 10-for-17 at the plate for the week with three doubles, eight runs scored and five walks. Trahan is now tied for the RRAC lead in RBIs with 30, and he is tied for second in homers with seven on the season. LSUS improved to 5-1 in conference play and 24-4 on the season. The Pilots are currently ranked 12th in the country.

Orta established a new JCC record for strikeouts in a game with 17. The junior from San Juan, P.R., didn’t allow an earned run in a 7-1 win over University of the Southwest (N.M.) on Friday. Orta only walked one hitter in 8 2/3 innings of work. He is now tied for the RRAC strikeout lead with 44 this season. The Bulldogs swept the series with USW to climb to 4-2 in the RRAC with a record of 16-9 overall.
