Jackson State Scores 16 Runs En Route To 16-4 Victory In Weekend Opener Against MVSU

JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State Tigers baseball team used a seven run third inning and an eight run sixth inning the put away the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils in the first game of a three-game weekend series Friday evening at Braddy Field.

JSU (10-2, 4-0 SWAC) defeated MVSU 16-4 en route to winning its seventh straight game and 10th overall. The winless Delta Devils fell to a 0-11 overall record. The Delta Devils opened the game by scoring two runs in the first inning, while JSU scored only one at the bottom of the first.

However, after giving up a run at the top of the third the Tigers went on to score seven runs at the bottom of the third to give JSU the lead for the rest of the game. The Tigers closed out the game by scoring eight runs in the sixth inning. JSU pitcher Nikelle Galatas pitched a complete game to pick up the win. In seven innings of work he scattered five hits while striking out seven.

Jarvis Warner and Raul Hernandez each finished with three hits to lead the Tigers. Jesus Santana scored a pair of runs and had four RBI for JSU.

The two teams return to action Saturday, March 10 at 3 p.m.
