Jackson State Jonathan Aponte Pitches Complete Game For 15-0 Shutout Over Texas Southern

BILOXI, Miss. – Senior right-hand pitcher Jonathan Aponte pitched a complete nine-inning game for a 15-0 shutout over Texas Southern on Friday at the MGM Stadium in Biloxi, Miss.

The Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico native allowed three hits with three walks and eight strikeouts to lead the Jackson State baseball team to its second victory of the 2017 season.

On the offensive side of the ball, Wesley Reyes recorded the Tigers first home run of the season to start the JSU scoring effort in the bottom of the second inning with three RBIs. On the night, the freshman short stop recorded four at-bats, two runs, one hit, and four RBIs.

Three appeared to be JSU’s lucky number with three runs scored in the second, third, fourth, fifth, and eighth inning to tally 15.

Junior third baseman Jesus Santana had a good night at the plate with five at-bats for two runs, two hits (one triple), and five RBIs.

Other standout Tigers were Jonah Hargroves, Sam Campbell, and Stephan Vidal. Each recorded five at-bats with three hits.

Jackson State will be back on the diamond on Saturday, Feb. 25 when they take on Texas Southern in game two of the series. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
