MONTGOMERY – Alabama State swept this week’s SWAC Baseball honors, as Dillon Cooper was named Player of the Week, and Tyler Howe Pitcher of the Week.

ASU Roster Dillon CooperCooper (6-0, 220, Sr., Palm Bay, Fla.) earned SWAC honors for the first time this season after hitting .538 (7-13) with five runs scored, four extra-base hits (2 2B, 2 HR), and nine RBI. He also walked twice, and was hit by pitch once in posting a .588 on-base percentage, and a 1.154 slugging percentage. Cooper had at least two hits and two RBIs in the three-game weekend series at Mississippi Valley State, including his first-career two-homer game with five RBIs in Sunday’s 28-1 win. This season, Cooper has career highs in average (.326), home runs (six), RBI (36), walks (18), OBP (.429), and SLG% (.543). He is first on team in doubles, third in both home runs and RBI, tied for third in multi-hit games (13), and tied for second in multi-RBI games (11)

ASU Roster Tyler HoweHowe (6-1, 235; R-Jr., Lakeland, Fla.) earned SWAC Pitcher of the Week honors for the third time this season. Howe, who was named to the National Pitcher of the Year watch list last week with teammate Joseph Camacho, made two appearances last week with one start, throwing 10.0 innings, allowing two hits and one run, with one walk and 11 strikeouts. Howe threw a complete game one-hit shutout Saturday at Miss. Valley St., walking one and striking out 10 in the 10-0 win, retiring the final 12 batters he faced including striking out the side in the seventh in a victory that clinched the SWAC Eastern Division title for the third straight year. This season, he is 7-2 in 10 games with nine starts, with a 1.05 ERA in 60.0 IP. Howe has allowed 39 hits, 13 runs (seven earned), issuing 12 walks and 61 strikeouts.
