MONTGOMERY – The honors continue for 2016 SWAC Champion Alabama State baseball outfielder Dillon Cooper following his stellar play in last week’s league tournament.

Cooper ASUCooper (6-0, 220, Sr., Palm Bay Fla.) earned Tournament MVP honors Sunday after leading the Hornets to their first SWAC title. Monday, he was named a Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week. Tuesday, he was named the College Sports Madness SWAC Player of the Week.

Cooper hit .714 in four games last week (10-for-14), with five doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI. He had a two home-run, seven-RBI game Wednesday against Southern, and went 4-for-5 including a home run and drove in four runs in Sunday’s championship game win over Texas Southern.

This season, Cooper has set career highs in avg. (.359), HR (10), and RBI (57), with 18 multi-hit games and 15 multi-RBI games. In the past 16 games, Cooper is batting .500 (28-for-56) with six HR, and 30 RBI, posting a .613 on-base percentage, and a 1.036 slugging percentage.

Alabama State (38-15), which set a school record for wins in becoming the first SWAC baseball team to go undefeated in conference play (24-0), will learn its NCAA Tournament destination Monday at 11 a.m. on the NCAA Selection Show on ESPNU.
