NORFOLK, Va. – German Hernandez was tabbed Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the period of February 22-28, announced Monday afternoon by the league office in Norfolk, Virginia. For Hernandez, this is his first-ever MEAC weekly honor in what is now his second season in Maroon and Gold.

B-CU BaseballHernandez, a 6-3, 205-pound senior pitcher from Cleburne, Texas, picked up his first win of the season in helping Bethune-Cookman shutout the Murray State Races over the weekend inside Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. He tossed eight scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out a career-best eight, in a 6-0 victory over the Racers, helping the Cats even the series with the game two victory. B-CU would go on to win the series with a 3-2 victory the following day behind the stellar pitching of Tyler Norris, also pitching a scoreless stint on the mound for the Maroon and Gold.

Florida A&M’s Alec Wong picked up MEAC Player of the Week honors, while teammate Willis McDaniel completed the “Sunshine State” sweep of the league’s weekly awards by grabbing MEAC Rookie of the Week accolades.

Bethune-Cookman returns to the diamond Tuesday, Feb. 23, traveling to face UCF in Orlando, Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
