Harris Stowe State Stephen Wells Records 200th Strikeout In Win

WALNUT RIDGE, AR – The Harris-Stowe State University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, to take on the Williams Baptist University Eagles in an AMC matchup. The Hornets, who split the doubleheader with the Eagles yesterday, were able to take the final game of the three game series after defeating Williams Baptist by a final score of 14-2 to improve to 16-18 on the season and 9-7 in the AMC.

Harris-Stowe put together a 13 hit outing this afternoon in the win. Their bats were rolling from the start in this one as they score three runs in the first, two runs in the second, two runs in the third, one run in the fourth, and six runs in the fifth to take a commanding 14-0 lead in the game. the Eagles did all they could to get back into the contest and were able to score one run in the fifth and one run in the seventh but that was as close as they would get as the Hornets picked up the final outs of the game to solidify the third game of the series.

Stephen Wells (SR/Orlando, FL) (4-5) was on the mound this afternoon as he allowed just four hits and two earned runs while striking out seven in his fourth complete game of the season. With his first strikeout of the game, Wells reached 200 career strikeouts in a Harris-Stowe uniform. He now sits at 206 for his career.

Dede Cole (JR/Pontiac, MI), Cole Danielson (SR/Palm Springs, CA), and Nick Roepken (SR/Lynbrook, NY) each had big days at the plate as all three hit homeruns including a grand slam from Roepken. Chase Goldwater(SR/Grandview, TX) also had a nice game as he went 3-for-5 with three RBI’s. Caleb Hill (SO/Saint Louis, MO) and Zeke Arthur (FR/Rolla, MO) both added RBI’s as well.

The baseball team is back in action on Tuesday, April 2nd when they travel to Missouri Baptist University to take on the Spartans in an AMC doubleheader. The doubleheader is set to start at 1 p.m.
