Harris Stowe State Hornets Sweep Trolls In Doubleheader

O’FALLON, IL – The Harris-Stowe State University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Trinity Christian College Trolls in a nonconference doubleheader. The Hornets swept the doubleheader as they won the first game by a final score of 11-2 and the second game by a final score of 7-5 to improve to 7-9 on the season.

The Hornets were rolling in the first game as they put together 13 hits in the contest. They scored two runs in the first, one run in the third, three runs in the fourth, and five runs in the fifth to solidify the win. Tyler Cox(JR/Mississauga, ON) (1-0) was on the mound for this one as he allowed just seven hits and one earned run while striking out two in his first complete game of the season. Offensively, Harris-Stowe was led by Cole Danielson(SR/Palm Springs, CA) who went 2-for-3, including a triple and a homerun, with three runs scored and five RBI’s. In addition, Nick Roepken (SR/Lynbrook, NY) went 1-for-2 with a two run homerun and Davie Pound (FR/Rolla, MO) went 2-for-3 with three RBI’s to round out the top performers for the Hornets.

Harris-Stowe carried over their momentum from the first game into the second game and put together seven hits in the game. They scored four runs in the first and three runs in the third while holding off the Trolls to solidify their seventh win of the season. Michael Washington (FR/St. Louis, MO) (1-0) was on the mound for the Hornets in this one as he allowed just four hits while striking out four in 5.0 innings of work. Jamie Roustio (FR/Granite City, IL) (1-0) and Brian Myers (SO/Wentzville, MO) (1-1) came in to pitch the last two innings as the two combined to allow two hits and four earned runs while striking out one. Davie Pound led the way offensively as he went 1-for-3 with two RBI’s in the contest.

The baseball team is back in action on Tuesday, February 26th when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky to take on Ohio Christian University in a doubleheader. The first game is set to start at noon.
