ST. LOUIS, MO – The Harris-Stowe State University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Missouri Baptist University Spartans in and AMC matchup. The Hornets, who were coming off a three game sweep over William Woods University, were able to carry over their momentum into today as they defeated the Spartans by a final score of 18-13 to improve to 12-11 on the season and 5-2 in the AMC.

Harris-Stowe was swinging the bat well today as they put together 16 hits, including five homeruns, to solidify their fourth straight win. They got off to a quick start as they were able to score two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 2-0 lead. The Spartans battled back and answered with a five run rally in the top of the second, but a three run spot from the Hornets in the bottom half of the frame tied the score at five heading into the third. The Spartans retook the lead over the next two innings after scoring one run in the third and one run in the fourth, but another run from the Hornets in the bottom of the fourth cut the Spartans lead to 7-6 heading into the fifth. Harris-Stowe was able to tie the score at seven in the bottom of the sixth, but a four run rally from the Spartans in the top of the seventh gave them an 11-7 lead late in the game. Despite being down, the Hornets continued to battle and rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 14-11 advantage. The Spartans answered back with two runs in to top of the eighth to cut the lead to one, but another rally from the Hornets in the bottom of the eighth clinched the win.
