Harris-Stowe State Hornets Baseball Partner to Help Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital

Harris-Stowe State Sports Information

St. Louis, MO – The Harris-Stowe Hornets Baseball team has begun a partnership with SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital for 2016-2017.  Their first debt of service to the hospital came last week as they helped work the Glennon Gallop.  All members participated in helping set up, parking, transporting guests, cleanup and helping with auction.

The Hornets have been working with Steve Sartin of Cardinal Glennon who serves as the hospitals community outreach coordinator.  Every member of the baseball program has had the opportunity to have a walk through the hospital to understand where all the funds of working events like this go to.  Coach CJ Bilbrey on the opportunity to help, “It’s an eye opening event for our guys.  Many people have been lucky enough to not have to witness a young family member go through a difficult time like these kids are going through each day.  Our guys are very committed to working with Cardinal Glennon and helping in any way we can.  We feel it is important to serve our community and help in any capacity.”

The Glennon Gallop is a horse polo match that is held at the Kraftig Polo Club.  Despite the match being canceled because of the wet conditions on the field, the event still took place as guest were treated to a live band, auction, meal and other entertainment.

The proceeds of the event went to benefit the Danis Pediatric Center at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.  Danis Pediatric is a teaching environment for medical students and residents of Saint Louis University School of Medicine.  In addition to caring for children, full-time faculty physicians take time during each child’s office visit as an opportunity to teach future pediatricians how to provide exceptional care for children.  In 2015 Danis Pediatrics served nearly 20,000 patients, with approximately 85% of those being below the poverty level.

Harris-Stowe Baseball and Cardinal Glennon have agreed to another event that will take place in the spring. More details will be available in the coming weeks.  If interested in helping please contact Steve Sartin by emailing him atsteven_sartin@ssmhc.com.
