SAINT LOUIS, MO – Searching for win number 30 of the season came just in time for the American Midwest Conference Tournament next week. The Hornets finished their regular season today with an 8-6 win over (RV) Freed-Hardeman University.
FHU struck first in the top of the 2nd inning when Quinn Frost reached base on a fielder’s choice that sent Darcy Moore across home plate.
Harris-Stowe answered right back in the bottom half of the inning when Jared Corbett (SR/St. Louis, MO) singled to left field and drove Ty Haston (JR/Clarksville, TN) home for a 1-1 tie.
Freed would plate two more runs in both the 3rd and 5th innings while HSSU sent Kenny Lara (JR/Queens, NY), Leobardo Saldivar Jr, and Jared Corbett home to tie the game at 5-5 going into the 9th inning.
The Lions got their saving grace in the top of the 9th when Josh Sears homered over the center field fence on the first pitch he saw.
But, Saldivar, Jr finished off the regular season in style as he blasted a walk-off 3-run homerun in the bottom of the 9th to give the Hornets the 8-6 win and their 30th win of the season.
Tyler Boles (JR/Clarksville, TN) got the start for today’s game going 7.0 innings while striking out five. DaJuan Griffin, William Rodriguez (FR/Corona, NY), and Nick Ferraro (SR/Kansas City, MO) all saw time today as they combined for two strikeouts and only one hit.
