Texas Southern (1-8, 0-1) cut the deficit to 3-1 with a run in the top of the fifth, but that would be as close as TSU would get. Grambling State used a seven-run sixth to extend the lead to 10-1.

Ace Felder began the bottom of the sixth with a base hit to left center and stole second. Kevin Whitaker, Jr. followed with an infield hit as Felder moved to third. Ian Bailey reached on a fielder’s choice as Felder was out at home. Isaiah Torressingled through the right side to score Whitaker as Bailey stopped at second. Both runners moved up a base on a passed ball.

Still with one out in the inning, Richard Ortiz was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Rafael Ramirez III singled to right to score Bailey. Drexler Macaay followed and was hit by a pitch to score Torres. Kristian Franklin walked to bring in Ortiz. CJ Mervilus reached on a fielder’s choice as Macaay scored and Ramirez was out at the plate. Now with two down, Felder, batting for the second time in the frame, singled to left to score Franklin as Mervilus stopped at third. Whitaker singled up the middle, scoring Mervilus as Felder was out at home trying to score.
