Grambling State Defeats Prairie View 12-7 In 11 innings

PRAIRIE VIEW, Tex. – The Grambling State baseball team posted five runs in the top of the 11th inning to defeat Prairie View 12-7 on Friday night Tankersley Field.

Grambling (20-27, 13-9 SWAC) led 7-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Prairie View (18-31, 11-11 SWAC) scored three runs in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 7-all. Neither team scored in the eighth or ninth, forcing extra innings.

After a scoreless 10th inning, the Tigers managed five runs to take the lead for good. Daniel Barnett scored on a throwing error by pitcher Nic Campos. Tray Bell scored on Johan Mojica‘s outfield fly out, then Nick Wheeler‘s single to left field scored Chris Perez and Kristian Franklin. One batter later, Ace Felder scored on Marshawn Taylor‘s groundout to second base.

Tiger pitcher Daniel Beizer faced five batters in the bottom of the 11th and struck out three of them en route to winning his fourth game of the season. He pitched five scoreless innings in relief and allowed three hits while striking out seven batters.

Rafael Ramirez, Barnett, Bell, Franklin and Felder each had two hits for GSU. Mojica and Wheeler tallied three RBI apiece.

Game 2 of the series starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
