The Florida Memorial University Lions baseball (5-3) tool the 3-game series 2 games to 1 by defeating Thomas University (1-5), 11-5.

A day after the Night Hawks pitching dominated the Lions hitters, the Night Hawks came out looking for a repeat performance. The Night Hawks drew first blood, scoring 4 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the third inning. In the top of the 6th inning, the Lions bats would come alive as the Night Hawks defense could not keep the Lions from scoring. The Lions earned 5 hits, were aided by 2 errors, a wild pitch, and a pass ball that would allow 9 runners to cross home plate for the Lions. The score after 7 innings of play was 9-5 in favor of the Lions.

The Lions would score one run in the top of the eighth and one more in the top of the ninth and capture the lead 11-5 and take the series. This victory would improve the Lions record to 5-3. The Lions would benefit from some sloppy defense play from the Night Hawks and timely hitting to earn this victory.

Leading the way for the Lions were Yunior Sanchez and Darrin Brown with 2 hits apiece. The Lions catcher, Jose Chavez went 3-6 with 4 RBI. Acier Rodriguez threw 3 1/3 innings, allowed 4 hits, and 1 run, and struck out 2 batters for the victory.

The Lions will be at home on Wednesday, Feb. 13th at 3:00 to take on Florida National University.
