TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The FAMU Baseball team won their fourth straight game Friday evening, edging past visiting Wofford (S.C.) College, 2-1 at Moore-Kittles Field.

FAMU (10-14) has now won five of its’ last seven games thanks to Friday’s victory over the Terriers (16-8).

The Rattlers drew first blood, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Jared Weber’s RBI single to left, which scored Seyjuan Lawrence, who reached on a leadoff double.

Wofford tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third, when when Mike Brown reached on a fielder’s choice, later scoring from second on a FAMU throwing error.

In the bottom of the seventh, FAMU took the lead for good on an RBI single by Lawrence, which scored Robert Robinson, who reached on a two out walk.

Middle reliever Morgan Mendez (2-1) got the win in relief of FAMU starter Kyle Coleman, who retired the first two outs in the top of the seventh before being lifted after allowing two base runners.

Mendez worked an inning and a third, immediately recording an out to end the Wofford threat in the seventh, then he set down the Terriers in order in the eighth, setting the stage for closer Jeremiah McCollum who set down Wofford in order in the ninth for his fifth save of the year.

The Terriers were held to just five hits on Friday.

The Rattlers managed six hits off Wofford pitching, led by Seyjuan Lawrence with two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Jared Weber also had a hit and an RBI, with Octavien Moyer, Brett Maxwell and Ryan Coscarella all getting hits for FAMU.

WHAT’S ON DECK: FAMU and Wofford will play Game Two of their three-game series Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Moore-Kittles Field.
