ATLANTA, GA – Behind the strength of two excellent starting performances, the Kentucky State University baseball team claimed a four-game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series with Sunday’s doubleheader sweep of Morehouse
Junior Brady Bibbs (Hornersville, MO) surrendered just three hits in seven innings of work, allowing just one earned run in the 15-3 victory over Morehouse.

After the Maroon Tigers scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom half of the first, but the Thorobreds offense refused to be stabled. Kentucky State scored multiple runs in four of the next five innings to provide Bibbs with a ton of run support.

Kentucky State talled three runs in the second to take the lead, but Morehouse came back with an equalizing run in the third inning. Then, the offensive derby was out the gates.

It began with a five-run fourth, continued with a four-run fifth and crossed the finish line with a three-run sixth.

Senior Russell Sims (Harrodsburg, KY) drove in a team-high four runs with a 3-for-4 outing and he also scored a run. Sophomore Dom Lawson (Bloomfield, KY) and senior Cam Starks (Alpharetta, GA) added three RBI for the Thorobreds. Starks was 2-for-4 with a triple, while Lawson was 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

Senior Jordan Ransom (Ringgold, GA) finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI and senior Artie Santomo (Florence, KY) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Freshman Solomon Reed (Cincinnati, OH), in his first career start, took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and had to yield to Ringgold, who ended the game with a strikeout, as Kentucky State completed the doubleheader sweep.

Reed didn’t allow a single earned run over 6 2/3 innings, striking out a career-high 10 with just five hits and two walks. Two of the five knocks were bunt singles, and none of the hits were of the extra base variety.

Sims gave Kentucky State the lead with a two-run double in the third inning, and came around to score on a throwing error and the Thorobreds led 3-0. After junior Bryan Mason (Chattanooga, TN) scored on another error in the fifth inning, sophomore Adren Thompson(Lexington, KY) brought home a pair of runs with a two-out single.

Morehouse scored a pair of unearned runs thanks to a two-out error in the sixth inning, and brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the seventh. However, Ringgold slammed the door on any potential threat with a strikeout for his second save of the season.

Kentucky State (13-5-1 overall, 3-1 SIAC) returns to the diamond 2 p.m. Tuesday in non-conference action at Kentucky Christian.
