Edward Waters Tigers Win Fifth Straight With Run Rule Victory Over Thomas

Jacksonville, Florida – Edward Waters notches their fifth consecutive victory on Friday afternoon as they cruised to a 15-5 triumph over the visiting Nighthawks of Thomas University at James P. Small Memorial Park. The contest was ended in the bottom of the eighth inning due to the 10-run “Mercy Rule”.

After going down 4-0 in the top of the secong inning, Edward Waters responded in the bottom of the third with five runs to take the lead that they would not give up. The Nighthawks tied the contest at five in the top of the fifth but EWC was able to add runs in the bottom of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to take an 8-5 lead. The offensive floodgates opened in the bottom of the eighth inning, when the Purple & Orange pushed seven runs across the plate to bring an early end to the day’s action.

The Tigers racked up 18 hits on the day to nine for the visitors from Thomasville, GA. Catcher Ricardo Santana had his best offensive day as a Tiger, going 3-for-4 with two singles and a double while adding four RBI’s to his tally. Right fielder Keilin Washington went 3-for-5 at the plate, also with two singles and a double and one RBI, while center fielder Will Boggs got into the act going 3-for-6 with two RBI’s.

Freshman pitcher Levi Sigler earned the victory for Edward Waters, pitching 6.0 innings.

Edward Waters and Thomas will wrap up their three-game set with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00pm at James P. Small Memorial Park.
