Jacksonville, Florida – After dropping both games of Saturday’s doubleheader, Edward Waters (2-2) was able to get off of the mat in a huge way on Sunday against Bluefield (2-2), taking the final game of their four-game season opening series 11-1 in seven innings at James P. Small Memorial Baseball Park to salvage a split of the series.

Senior pitcher Manuel Guerra was virtually unhittable on Sunday afternoon in his first outing of the season. In six innings of work, the Jacksonville native recorded a career high 13 strikeouts, while only allowing four hits and one earned run.

At the plate, it was the play of junior center fielder Damani Thomas that carried the afternoon for Edward Waters. Thomas went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for the Tigers, with four runs scored, four RBIs, a double, a triple, and his second homerun of the young season.

EWC will take their show on the road next weekend to begin a four-game series in West Palm Beach against former Sun Conference rival, Keiser University. Friday’s doubleheader will begin at 1:00pm, while Saturday’s action will start at 12pm.
