SAVANNAH, GA — Cornelious Woods doubled twice, drove in a run and scored the game-winning run to help lift the Bulldogs to a 4-3 win over Savannah State in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.

The  Bulldogs lost the nightcap 10-0. The two teams will close out the series Sunday at 11 a.m. (Central). A&M will host North Alabama on Tuesday and Tennessee-Martin on Wednesday. First pitch for both games is 2 p.m.

The win Saturday snapped a four-game losing skid for Alabama A&M. Zeth Malcom and Carson McGregory were hitless, ending their season-opening hitting streaks at six games.
The Bulldogs found themselves behind 2-0 after the first inning before getting on the scoreboard.
After Carlton Peppers and Wilanier Betancourt reached, Woods ripped a double into the left-centerfield gap to score Peppers.
Njike Hunter led off the Bulldogs third with a triple and scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
Savannah State took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth, but the Bulldogs weren’t finished.

Dameyune Mayhand came in to relieve starter Blaine Milam in the bottom of the seventh. After the first batter reached on error, he was thrown out by catcher Malcom trying to steal second and Mayhand got a ground out and line out to keep Savannah State off the board.

In the eighth inning, the Bulldogs capitalized on three Savannah State errors to take a 4-3 lead. Betancourt scored on Pierre Brewton‘s bases-loaded walk and Woods made the score 4-3 when he scored on an error.
