NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State’s Marcos Castillo was named the MEAC Baseball Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the first time that Castillo has received MEAC Player of the Week honors after collecting a Rookie of the Week award once last season.  This is also the second time in as many weeks that the Eagles have had a player earn Player of the Week accolades.

A sophomore from Round Rock, Texas, Castillo batted .700 (7-for-10) with six RBI, two doubles, two triples and two stolen bases in Coppin’s series victory over Albany.

In the opening game victory against the Great Danes on Saturday, Castillo went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored and a pair of steals while also collecting a double and a triple.  The following game, Castillo once against went 3-of-4 with three RBI, finishing a home run short of the cycle.

To close out the series, Castillo recorded a base knock and drew a walk in three plate appearances.

Castillo has had a hot start to the 2019 season as he leads the MEAC in hitting (.476), slugging percentage (.810), on-base percentage (.607), runs scored (9), triples (2) and stolen bases (5).
