NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State’s Devin Rivera Ozuna has been named the MEAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday night. This is the first weekly award on Rivera Ozuna’s career and he is the first Eagles player to be named the Conference’s Pitcher of the Week this season.
A righthander from Washington, D.C., Rivera Ozuna struck out a career-high 11 batters in 6.1 shutout innings on Sunday at Norfolk State – a game the Eagles won 5-0 to tie the Spartans atop the Northern Division standings. The victory also gave Coppin State its 21st win of the season, matching a program-record.
Rivera Ozuna is having a spectacular senior season, leading the MEAC with a 7-1 record while accumulating a 2.62 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 55.0 innings. He has been dominant in conference play, going 5-0 with a 1.18 ERA to go with 34 strikeouts in 38 innings.
