BALTIMORE  – The Coppin State baseball team opened its Annual Navy/Gold Fall Series on Wednesday afternoon with the Gold Team coming away victorious, 1-0, in four innings at Orchard Park.

Junior Brandon Watkins recorded the game-winning single in the first inning as he grounded a ball to first base but beat out starting pitcher Bradley Tuttle to first to reach safely.  Scoring on the play was freshman freshman Caden Walton who was hit by a pitch and stole a base earlier in the frame. Tuttle escaped further damage in the first inning as he struck out the side.

Freshman Tim Ruffino was the lone Eagles pitcher to toss a 1-2-3 inning during the game. Newcomers Giovanni CanalesNico Felber and Rashad Ruff also impressed in their lone innings of work on the mound.

At the plate, Conner Walker drew a pair of walks and Marcos Castillo added a base knock.

Strong defense was also shown by first-year players Lawrence Noble in the outfield and Toran Smith at third base.
