Cooper Named SWAC Player Of The Week For Second Time

MONTGOMERY – For the second time in three weeks, Alabama State outfielder Dillon Cooper was named Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Cooper (6-0, 220, Sr., Palm Bay, Fla.) hit .462 last week, scoring three runs with

two doubles, one home run (a grand slam), and six RBI. He also walked four times and was hit by pitch once, posting a .611 on-base percentage and an .846 slugging percentage. He had two multi-hit games and one multi-RBI game, reaching base in every game. Against Alabama A&M this past weekend, Cooper went 6-9 in three games, including a three-hit game Friday, a second-inning grand slam on Saturday, and a pair of hits Sunday.

Cooper is having a career season in his final Hornet campaign, with career highs in average (.329), home runs (seven), and RBI (43). He is t-6th in the SWAC in both home runs and RBI, t-2nd in doubles (15), t-4th in HBP (14), t-9th in runs scored (43), is eighth in total bases (94), and is 10th in hits (56), on-base percentage (.441) and slugging percentage (.553).

Alabama State (34-15 overall, 24-0 SWAC) became the first baseball team to go undefeated in league play in completing the weekend sweep over Alabama A&M. The Hornets are the #1 seed in the SWAC Eastern Division and will face #4 West seed Southern in the SWAC Tournament on Wednesday, May 18 at 6 p.m. in New Orleans, La.
