The Clark Atlanta University Panthers baseball team opened up their home season by sweeping a doubleheader against Kentucky State University Saturday at Bill Evans Field.

In the first game, CAU’s Ceontae Brandon went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to lead the Panthers to a 12-4 victory over KSU. The Panthers had three four-run innings – in the second, third and sixth – to control the game in which Brandon doubled in two runs in the third. Jordan Johnson also had a hit that drove in two runs and scored once himself.

On the mound, pitcher Anthony Nettles struck out five to earn the win.

In the second game, Jordan Johnson scattered four hits over eight innings while striking out eight as CAU defeated Kentucky State 2-1.  Offensively, Johnson walked and scored on Shahir Gates‘ single in the seventh to tie the game 1-1.  The Panthers then got the game-winning run after Jason Howell scored on a passed ball an inning later.

The two wins are the third in the last five games for CAU.

The Panthers host Kentucky State in a single game at noon on Sunday, February 18 at Bill Evans Field in College Park, Ga.
