ATLANTA, Ga. – With the opening conference series of the season Clark Atlanta baseball swept Lane College over the weekend. The panthers won both games of the Saturday doubleheader, 4-2 and 10-3, before ending the weekend with a 19-1 win on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED (SATURDAY GAME 1 – W | 4-2)
In the opening game of the series Lane scored twice in the top of the first inning off of Anthony Nettles.

CAU would score twice in the home second inning on a pair of unearned runs with Shahir Gates scoring on a throwing error before Joseph Holmes II scoring on a wild pitch.

The game would remain tied until the home fifth inning when Jason Howell would hit a homerun to right field to score Ceonte Brandon.

Nettles (2-3) tossed the complete game allowing five hits and two runs – both earned – and striking out seven batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED (SATURDAY GAME 2 – W | 10-3)
Two Panther runs would score in the home first inning with Kelechi Anyanwu scoring from first base on a double to center field by Raphael Andrades. Andrades would score two batters later on the RBI double from Malcolm Seabrooks.

Randy Rudulph picked up the two-RBI double to left field in the third inning scoring Andrades and Seabrooks.

In the fourth inning Anyanwu would hit a homerun to left center with one runner on before a Seabrooks double would score Jamari Randle.

CAU plated three more in the sixth inning to lead 10-0 with a Randle double brining home Anyanwu ahead of Andrades scoring on the fielder’s choice. The final Panther run was scored by Randle on the first hit of the game for Antonio Watts.

Lane would score three times in the visiting seventh inning.

Jordan Johnson (2-0) pitched the first four innings allowing three hits while striking out four batters in a scoreless start. Dillon Stafford struck out four more batters in two relief innings prior to Tahriq Wright pitching the final inning, adding two more strikeouts in the effort as CAU pitchers registered 10 strikeouts in the game.

Clark Atlanta had three players with two hits apiece with a pair scoring three runs each. Rudulph had three-RBI in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED (SUNDAY – W | 19-1)
Jezreel Moore (2-3) held the Dragons offense to just four hits over seven innings with nine strikeouts and just one run before and inning of relief each from Isaiah Blackwell and Simar Freeman that saw the bullpen add four more strikeouts with no hits surrendered.

The home half of the first inning saw Ayrton Gijsbertha hit a 3-run homerun to left field for his first collegiate homerun ahead of a solo shot from Johnson. Nettles would score in the second and Gijsbertha scored a second time in the third inning as CAU had the 6-0 advantage.

Clark Atlanta scored twice in the sixth inning  on a pair of unearned runs. Nine Panther runs scored in the seventh inning as CAU had just five hits in the inning but was aided by four walks and one hit batters.

The eighth inning had the first of two runs scored on a pinch-hit double down the left field line by Arias Smith to score Watts. Seabrooks scored the final run later in the inning on a sacrifice fly from Holmes.
