Claflin To Face West Florida In Opening Round of The NCAA Division II Baseball Championships Regionals

Orangeburg, SC – The Claflin University baseball team will enter the 2016 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship South Regionals as the No. 7 seed and will face the No. 2 seed in the South Region West Florida this Thursday, May 19 at 3 p.m., in the opening game of the 2016 NCAA Division II Baseball Regionals.  The regional rounds of the double elimination tournament will run Thursday-Monday, May 19-23, 2016.

Claflin, who received the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) automatic bid after defeating Stillman College twice, will enter will enter the tournament with a 24-27 overall record, while West Florida enters the tournament with a 33-15 overall record.

“We are excited about going to play West Florida,” said head coach James Randall.  “All the participants earned their way into the tournament, so their all good and we just have to go prepared to play.”

Based on the outcome of Thursday’s contest, Claflin will face the winner of the No. 3 Nova Southeastern/No. 6 West Georgia matchup in the winner’s bracket on Friday (May 20) at 7 p.m. or the loser of the No. 3 Nova Southeastern/No. 6 West Georgia matchup in the loser’s bracket on Friday (May 20) at 11 a.m.
